GHS Band Parents Meeting Minutes 8-25-09

AGENDA ITEM DISCUSSION RECOMMENDATIONS/ACTIONS RESPONSIBLE
       
I.  Call to Order   The meeting was called to order by  Carole Buebe
    President Carole Buebe.  
       
II.  Presentation of the Minutes   The minutes of the May 12, 2009  Doris Kowalski
    meeting will be deferred until the Sep-  
    tember meeting.  
       
III.  Treasurer's Report Band Parents reviewed reports ending 6/30/09 The reports will be filed for audit. Julie Nelson
  and 8/25/09.    
       
IV.  Director's Report Mr. Bredemeier offered recognition to the    Mr. Bredemeier
  Executive Committee for all their work on the     
  budget and preparations for Band Camp, etc.    
  Upcoming events were reviewed.  See agenda.    
  Mr. B. reviewed the following items for parents:    
  afterschool practice began today, memory testing    
  posters are around the room if you choose to     
  check your student's progress, phone calls     
  will be made regarding unpaid fees - payment    
  plans are available, photo make-up will be at     
  the first football game, Band will now be seated     
  at the South end bleachers, spirit wear will be    
  sold by the concessions stand,    
       
  Ms. Shadensack reinforced that absences   Ms. Shadensack
  require a note with parent signature, a phone    
  call will only be accepted on the day of a     
  performance followed by a note, memory tests    
  are graded tests.  New this year, Band students    
  must have eligible grades (just like a student    
  in sports) to participate in Band.      
       
V.  President's Report President Carole identified the following    Carole Buebe
  committees that need a Chair or Co-Chair:    
  Cheesecake:  co-chair    
  Fannie Mae Candy:  co-chair    
  Gift Wrap:  co-chair    
  Hy-Vee Coupon Books:  co-chair    
  Raffle:  Joan Brown & Nancy Boyd    
  Restaurant Nights:  co-chair    
  Jazz Showcase:  Need Both    
  U of I Tailgate:  co-chair    
  Water:  co-chair    
       
VI.  Committee Reports      
COMMUNICATIONS Communications Connie Oakley imported Freshman  Joan Smith
    email addresses.  
  Webmaster www.ghsbandboosters.info Cory Silber
    Site will be updated every Monday AM.  
  Historian 10 DVD's left and available for sale. Debbie McKillip
    Send pictures for the Band website.  
  Publicity No report Lori Haslem
       
MARCHING SEASON Chaperones Chaperones are needed for 4 competitions  
    this year.  Eight (8) people are signed Todd Shumaker
    up for the first competition.  
  Equipment The Band Trailor needs further work/  Nancy Reed and Dan
    repairs.  District  205 will be providing       Robertson
    a truck to pull the trailor to competitions.  
    Anyone willing to help, contact Nancy.  
  Flags One design completed.  Contact Ann Ann Seibert
    to help with flag sewing.  
  Uniforms Will need help at all parades, FB games,  
    and competitions with gold & plumes. Ann Shumaker & 
           Cheryl Johnson
  U of I Tailgate Arrangements are being made with   
    HyVee for the box lunch, price $5.00. Brenda Marshall
    Sign up sheets will be available in about   
    2 weeks for students.  We will again   
    need canopies/tents for the tables.  
  Spirit Wear Color Guard has requested decals. Kim Sevigny and 
           An Lybarger
  Watering Crew Need co-chair!!! Cathy Brush
       
WAYS AND MEANS Balloon Days Unable to aprticipate this year due to  Joan Smith/Carole Buebe
    new organizers.  
  Bottled Water Decided to pursue selling our water Cory & Deb Silber
    at Labor Day Parade from wagons  
  Car Wash Very successful - made $1006.00!!! Chuck Bankes &
    Have a second site for next year at  Chuck Buebe
    Family Video.  
  Cheesecake Sales No report Alanna Pelton
       
  Community Coupon Book Incentives were passed out the first day    Mr. Bredemeier
    of Band Camp.  Decided that we will   
    sell with Spirit Wear for $10.00.   
  Fannie Mae  Sales will begin in November. Cheryl Johnson
  Gift Wrap Need co-chair; would be great to have Lori Larsen
    an upper class parent.  Students are   
    expected to show-up and work 2 shifts.  
  HyVee Coupon Books Have book remaining; are good until  Brenda Marshall
    July.  Cost is $5.00.  
  Patron Sales We will coordinate this with/around Doris Kowalski
    our other fundraisers.  
  Raffle Discussed having a raffle as a major Nancy Boyd
    fundraiser.  Tickets will be $10.00 each.  
    Will seek approval from Administration  
    because the Athletic Boosters have   
    started a raffle with $100.00 tickets.  
  Restaurant Benefit Nights No report. Nancy Boyd
  Trailor Ad Sales No report. Ron Noble
       
VII.  Old Business Cory Silber reminded all committee chair-   Cory Silber
  persons to submit sign-in sheets to Cory for     
  assignment of points (towards the trip).    
       
  Ms. Shadensack reminded all present that    Ms. Shadensack
  forms are available for sport or other conflicts.    
       
VIII.  New Business   Melody Bates won the gift certificate  Carole Buebe
    for attending as a new/Freshman parent.  
       
IX.  Adjournment With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 7:55PM.   Carole Buebe
