Band Parents Meeting Minutes 10/14/2008

I.  Call to Order/Introductions The Band Parents Association meeting was  Attendance was recorded via sign-in Rhonda Brady

II. Presentation of the Minutes Attendees offered clarification of the spelling Upon motion being duly made and  Doris Kowalski
  of parents names and clarification of commit- seconded, the motion to approve the   
  tee chairs. minutes with the corrections noted was  
    carried.  
       
    Corrected minutes will be sent to Cory Doris Kowalski
    for posting on the Web site.  
       
III. Treasurer's Report The Treasurer's report was reviewed by Julie The report will be filed for audit. Julie Nelson
  Nelson.      
  Balance in Checking 10/14/08 is $2,271.51.    
  Balance in Money Market 10/14/08 is    
  $33,304.32 for a Total of $35,575.73.    
       
  There are $880.00 unpaid Band Fees to date. Reminder letters will be sent. Executive Board
       
IV. Director's Report Ms. Shadensack announced that the Jazz Jazz Band assignments will be posted  Ms. Shadensack
  Band auditions will be November 25th.  Music the day following auditions.  
  will be available on October 27th; help with     
  the music is available until November 13th.    
       
  The Jazz Showcase will be held March 26,    
  2009 at the Lake Storey Pavilion, 7:00PM.    
       
V.  President's Report President Rhonda commended all for their   Rhonda Brady
  attendance and continued support of the     
  Band program.     
  Marching Season is over; Fundraising begins!    
       
VI.  COMMITTEE REPORTS      
      COMMUNICATIONS Communications:   Band Parents offered positive feedback Cynthia Kitchen
    for all the communications this fall.  
       
  Web Master No report. Cory Silber
       
  Historian Pictures and video are available on the Debbie McKillip
    web site.  
       
  Publicity Newspaper response was okay. Lori Haslem
    Contact Lori when starting a fundraiser  
    or announcing an upcoming event.  
       
  Trip Coordinator No report on trip plans.  Band parents Cory & Deb Silber
    were reminded that our fundraising Rhonda Brady
    goal is $12,000.00 each year.to pre-  
    pare for the every-four year trip.  
    Trip points will be posted on the Website.  
       
      MARCHING SEASON Uniforms Suggestions were offered for controling Ann Shumaker and
    mildew of the gaunlets. (Baking soda, Carolyn Pierson
    kitty litter, silica jel packets)  
    Assistance is needed for U of I.  
    Students are reminded to clean  
    uniform and shoes after game on Friday.  
       
  Equipment Equipment is ready for U of I. Nancy Reed and 
      Larry Brady
       
  Flags All sewing is complete.    Ann Seibert
       
  Chaperones Still need 3 chaperones for U of I.  See Julie Mackert and

  U of I Tailgate Hy-Vee on Henderson will provide a Linda Mower and 
    brown-bag lunch similar menu to last      Brenda Marshall
    year for $3.99 without a drink.

  Cookie Dough Exploring Cookiedough Sale to be  Lynn Armstrong

  Fine Arts Calendar The ads sold last year to sponsor the   
    Fine Arts Calendar will be used in the   
    Jass Showcase Program.  
       
  Gift Wrap Sign-up sheets for parents distributed. Mary Gehring 
    Each student will be required to work Carole Buebe
    2 shifts.  Each shift will have at least   
    one Band Parent working.

  Restaurant Benefit Nights Bagging for tips will be the first Satur- Linda Mowrer
    day in December at both HyVee  
    locations.  
    Due to low participation by the students,  
    it was recommended to schedule this  
    fundraising activity after the Marching  
    season has concluded.  
       
  Spirit Wear Prices were reviewed.  Spirit wear is  Brenda Sugden
    considered a service, not a profit  Leanne Scherpe
    center.  Polo price will be increased  
    from $17.50 to $20.00.  
       
  Seminary Street Days No report.  Unable to participate until  
    2009 or 2010.  
       
      JAZZ Jazz Showcase Date announced.  See previous report. Sarah & John Shelly

       AWARDS Banquet The Banquet will be held at the  Kathi Myers
    American Legion Hall. Alanna Pelton
       
VII. OLD BUSINESS None    
       
VIII.  DIRECTORS REPORT Recapped that there are 2 Football Games  Request for underclassmen parents Mr. Bredemeier
       (continued) and U of I remaining in the Marching Season. to help with uniforms at final Football   
    game and U of I to allow Senior parents  
    to be with their Band members.  
  Ray Cramer, previously with Indiana Univer-    
  sity will visit GHS Band and offer comments.    
       
  Veteran's Day and Holiday Parades The Band will be split into Silver and   
    Gold Pep Bands; see schedule for   
    parade assignment.  The Band will   
    not perform in either parade if the tem-  
    perature is 32 degrees or less.  
  Gary Smith, previously Director of the Marching    
  Illini and Mike Dimiko, previously director of  Mr. B. commented that these visitors  
  Metamora Band will also visit the Band and  to the Band offer enrichment to our   
  offer comments. program; our students are lucky to   
    have this experience.  
IX.  NEW BUSINESS 2008-2009 Budget was presented with an  The Budget was approved by the    Rhonda Brady
  Income of $43,500.00 and Expenses of  Band Parents after discusssion of the   
  $54,025.00. need to fundraise to ofset the deficit.  
       
X.  Additional Comment Mr. Bredemeier shared the Fundraising Band Parents discussed the  Mr. Bredemeier
  idea of a Spaghetti Dinner.  The dinner has  frequency and number of fundraisers  
  been successful in his previous school. as well as our purpose for these.  
    No decision made on the new idea.
