ATTENDANCE AT ALL BAND CAMP SESSIONS IS MANDATORY

Whenever someone misses camp we lose time trying to catch that person up when they return to camp/school. Although I cannot make band camp part of the student's grade, missing all or a portion of band camp may mean becoming an alternate (sharing a spot with someone on the field). We will no longer  accept notes for absences. If your student must miss a rehearsal for any reason, you must either call or have a doctor’s note.

WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP

  • Instrument in good playing condition (all keys, valves, slides, etc. working)
  • Accessories for your instrument (reeds, valve oil, sticks, mallets, etc.)
  • Three ring binders for music charts and storage (plastic page protectors are strongly encouraged. Drill Charts and Music will be turned in for a grade at the end of the marching season. Those who do not turn in all charts and all music are not eligible to earn an A for the term.
  • Pencil for marching and music rehearsals
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Gym shoes. NO SANDALS!!!
  • Drinking water!!
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses.

SCHOOL-OWNED INSTRUMENTS

School-owned instruments will be checked out on Thursday, July 31, 2008  for Freshman and Sunday, August 2, 2008 for upper class students. If you want to check out an instrument sooner, you may contact me at 371-9643. Each student must fill out a rental contract for each instrument that he/she uses. All students who are currently renting over the summer will need to fill out a new contract. There is a $25 per semester ($50 per year) rental fee for all school-owned instruments. This rental fee is also charged to all percussionists. This fee will be included with your book fees at registration.

SCHOOL REGISTRATION

The possibility of school registration for band students during camp is very likely. We are unsure when this will happen. Further information will be given at this time.

MARCHING BAND COSTS

There are four things that the students will need to buy during band camp. The cost of these items varies depending on how many are ordered. The costs below are approximate. Students should not pay until the orders come in and the overall cost is given. The overall cost for band students is $75 and approximately $100 for Color Guard. The items and their approximate costs are as follows:

UNIFORMS

They are white and they are expensive. Students will be measured and fitted for their band uniforms on Monday, August 4 through Friday, August 8 during Band Camp. Uniforms will be distributed to the students during this same time. A $25.00 uniform rental and maintenance fee will be collected when you receive your uniform. Checks can be made out to GHS Band Boosters. STUDENTS WILL PAY FOR ANY DAMAGES OR ANY PART OF THE UNIFORM THAT IS LOST OF STOLEN. UNIFORMS ARE $350 EACH. PLEASE KEEP THEM CLEAN AND TAKE CARE OF THEM.

MARCHING BAND SHOES

Marching band shoes will be ordered during camp. The cost of shoes is approximately $30.00. Shoes will be available to try on to ensure that the correct size is ordered. Money for shoes will be collected after the shoes arrive at which time checks can be made out to GHS Bands.

WHITE GLOVES

Everyone, except color guard and percussionists are required to purchase white gloves. They will be available for approximately $5.00 during camp. Checks can be made out to GHS Bands.

MARCHING BAND T-SHIRT

The official 2008-2009 Marching Streaks T-Shirt will be ordered during band camp. These shirts will be the required uniform for a few fall performances, as well as for pep band later in the school year. Everyone will need to order a t-shirt. The cost of the T-shirt will be approximately $10.00. Checks may be made out to GHS Bands.

CHARTER BUS FEE

Fee will be $5 for all band students and Color Guard members. We will be taking Charter Buses to all competitions!

COLOR GUARD

Color Guard pants - $17.00. Color guard gloves - TBA (approximately $10).

PHOTO SESSION

The marching band photo session will be Tuesday, August 12 from 5-6pm.

MARCHING SEASON REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

During the marching season, we will have mandatory rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday from 3-5:pm. They are required for a grade. Also, you will notice on the schedule calendar here that we will have an one-hour rehearsal after school on Friday, September 26. Please let Mr. B. know about any conflicts you have with these times as soon as possible. We will work out conflicts with other school activities and athletics. For athletics, I will sit down with your coaches and your coach and I will figure out the best schedule for you, as done in the past. Work is not an excuse for missing rehearsal!

Additionally, color guard members will rehearse each Monday from 5:30-8:30pm during the marching season. Drum majors will rehearse each Monday from 3:00-5:00pm. There are two rare exceptions when there is no school on a Monday; on these days sessions will then move to Wednesday.

Percussion (drumline and PIT) will rehearse from 5-6pm on Tuesdays.
