2008 Geneseo Maple Leaf Classic Marching Band Competition

This year, Geneseo is hosting their 18th annual Maple Leaf Marching Band Classic on Saturday, September 27th at the Bob Reade Field at Geneseo High School, N. State Street, Geneseo, IL.

Many parents meet in Galesburg High School parking lot and choose to follow the buses to the competitions. You are welcome to join the caravan. Or you may wish to make your trek to the competition at your own leisure. See information above for address and link to maps which will help you with your journey to the competition .

Important Information

Students:
Be sure to eat and drink enough the DAY BEFORE AND MORNING OF marching performances/competitions. Not all problems can be prevented, but this helps minimize unnecessary problems with fainting, fatigue, dehydration, or otherwise falling out.

Wear appropriate clothing underneath your uniform!
And bring appropriate clothing to change into between and after performances/competitions.
Bring an extra pair of socks (in case of rain and marching in puddles.

Students and Parents (Be Weather Prepared)
Weather can be unpredictable. It can be sunny and warm during the day, but it can get cold by night in the stands for performances and when waiting around for awards and the ride home.
Be sure to review Weather Forecast and dress for the weather.
Parents are encouraged to bring blankets, coats, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, umbrella, etc..

 

Geneseo Maple Leaf Classic Competition Information and Itinerary

The Geneseo Maple Leaf Classic is conducted in an Educational format.
Each band will receive a one hour clinic from an expert adjudicator with cross-caption expertise.  After the clinics, the individual sections of the participating bands will receive master classes administered by the complete sections of our guest band, The Western Illinois University Marching Leathernecks. The competition is in the evening under the lights.

       CHECKLIST:

      - Instrument in good working condition (extra reeds, sticks and valve oil) 

      - Be sure that you have all pieces of your uniform when you arrive at GHS. Gold and gauntlets will be distributed at Geneseo.

      - Money for dinner or a snack at the concession stand.

      - Students who plan to ride home with their parents should give Ms. Shadensack a note signed by a parent IN ADVANCE!

      THINGS TO REMEMBER:

      • BE ON TIME!
      • Be courteous and considerate to other students, band directors, band parents and each other.  Remember that you are representing the school and the community as well as the band!
      • Be responsible for your own equipment (instrument, uniform, shoes, reeds, mouthpiece, etc).
      • You are to ride the bus to which you have been assigned to and from the competition.  No students will be allowed to switch buses.
      • Students must remain in the supervised competition area unless their parents bring a signed note and check the student out with Ms. Shadensack. 
      • Students will not be allowed to ride home with parents, unless Ms. Shadensack receives a signed parent note IN ADVANCE
      • ALL SCHOOL RULES ARE IN EFFECT WHEN THE BAND TRAVELS.

      Have a ride ready for you when we arrive at GHS.

      Adults - $5
      Students - $3 with ID
      Seniors - $3
      Programs - no cost

      Concessions are available in range of $0.25 to $6.00

      Competition location is being held at Geneseo Football Field
      First Band performance steps off at 6:15 pm.
      GHS Marching Streaks performs at 9:00 pm.
      Awards at 9:45 pm
