Morton High School Marching Invitational Information
Important Information
Students: Be sure to eat and drink enough the DAY BEFORE AND MORNING OF marching performances/competitions. Not all problems can be prevented, but this helps minimize unnecessary problems with fainting, fatigue, dehydration, or otherwise falling out.
Wear appropriate clothing underneath your uniform! And bring appropriate clothing to change into between and after performances/competitions. Bring an extra pair of socks (in case of rain and marching in puddles.
Students and Parents (Be Weather Prepared) Weather can be unpredictable. It can be sunny and warm during the day, but it can get cold by night in the stands for performances and when waiting around for awards and the ride home. Be sure to review Weather Forecast and dress for the weather. Parents are encouraged to bring blankets, coats, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, umbrella, etc..

This year, Morton is hosting their 3rd Annual Marching Invitational. It will be held on Saturday, September 13th, 2008.
The competition will be held at the Morton High School’s Carper Field.
Many parents meet in Galesburg High School parking lot and choose to follow the buses to the competitions. You are welcome to join the caravan. Or you may wish to make your trek to the competition at your own leisure. See information below for maps which will help you with your journey to the competition.

Saturday’s Weather Forecast 60% chance of thunderstorms possible from 6pm - 10pm Temperatures: high of 75 and low of 64.
Note to parents and spectators: In the past, parking lot is reserved for bus parking only. Competition spectators have to park on any side streets across from Carper Field.

Itinerary for Morton is as follows. Ask your student if they brought home an itinerary!
- 4:30pm - All students check in with directors in the GHS Band Room.
- MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR INSTRUMENT, UNIFORM, GLOVES, WHITE SOCKS, SHOES, AND HELMET.
- DO NOT BE THE PERSON THAT FORGETS THEIR INSTRUMENT!!
- 4:45pm - Meeting in the GHS Band Room.
- 5:10-5:30pm - Load Buses at GHS
- 5:30pm - Depart for Morton from GHS
- 6:30pm - Arrive at Morton and unload
- WE WILL CHANGE INTO UNIFORMS ON THE BUSES. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMETHING DECENT ON!
- 7:24pm - Warmup
- 8:24pm- GHS FIELD PERFORMANCE at Morton High School Carper Field

- 9:20pm - Awards Ceremony
- As soon as Awards Ceremony concludes, meet back at buses in Morton Parking Lot and board for attendance and depart Morton for GHS.
- 11:00pm - Arrive at GHS and unload buses
CHECKLIST:
- Instrument in good working condition (extra reeds, sticks and valve oil)
- Be sure that you have all pieces of your uniform when you arrive at GHS. Gold and gauntlets will be distributed at Morton.
- Money for dinner or a snack at the concession stand.
- Students who plan to ride home with their parents should give Ms. Shadensack a note signed by a parent IN ADVANCE!
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
- BE ON TIME!
- Be courteous and considerate to other students, band directors, band parents and each other. Remember that you are representing the school and the community as well as the band!
- Be responsible for your own equipment (instrument, uniform, shoes, reeds, mouthpiece, etc).
- You are to ride the bus to which you have been assigned to and from the competition. No students will be allowed to switch buses.
- Students must remain in the supervised competition area unless their parents bring a signed note and check the student out with Ms. Shadensack.
- Students will not be allowed to ride home with parents, unless Ms. Shadensack receives a signed parent note IN ADVANCE.
- ALL SCHOOL RULES ARE IN EFFECT WHEN THE BAND TRAVELS.
- Have a ride ready for you when we arrive at GHS.

Morton High School Carper Field Gates and Concession information:
The gates to Carper Field will open to the public at 12:30pm. Admission details: Adults - $5 Students - $3 Seniors - $3 Children 5 and under - free
Concessions will be available from 12:30pm until the close of the Invitational. A concessions menu has been included for your reference. (click here for copy of menu)
