GHS Band Parents Minutes May 13, 2008 1. Call to Order/Introduction: The meeting was called to order by President John Shelly. He welcomed everyone to the meeting. 2. Secretary’s Report: A motion was made and approved of the minutes as written. 3. Treasurer’s Report: As of May 7, 2008, we had income of $3,335.96 and expenses of $7,298.95 with $1,849.56 in our checking account and $42,983.35 in our money market account for a total balance of $44,832.91. A motion was made and passed to approve the incomes and expenses as presented. 4. Director’s Report: Mr. Bredemeier announced that auditions for the concert bands began today. Drum major auditions will begin tomorrow. Graduation band will perform on May 25 and the Memorial Day parade will be May 26. The final exam for band will consist of 3 parts, each worth 100 points. The first part is attending the Thursday parade rehearsal after school. The second part is performing in the parade and the third part is turning in your complete uniform after the parade. On Friday, May 30, interested students will be able to check out instruments for the summer. 5. Committee Reports Before beginning the committee reports, John Shelly said it had been a good year for the band and he encouraged everyone to come to the banquet on May 17. He also thanked Shaela Duckwiler for her work on the Big Band Dip and Sherry Bankes for her work on the banquet. A. Uniforms –VickiTate/Laurie Pearson: Laurie handed out a sign up sheet for help during and after the Memorial Day parade, along with turning in the uniforms at GHS after the parade. Stations will be set up on the stage for the collection of the marching uniforms. B. Trip – John Tate: No report. C. Chaperones – Carolyn Icenogle/Dorene Murfin: No report. D. Communication – Stewart Nyi: No report. E. Publicity – Gayle Stanley: She placed the last ad in the paper for the year. F. Equipment – Mark Stanley: No report. G. Flags – No report. H. Big Band Dip –Shaela Duckwiler: No report. I. Banquet – Sherry Bankes: The banquet will be May 17th at the Knights of Columbus, with a Disney theme. Set up will begin on Saturday at 1 p.m. Please stop by if you can help. We have 220 dinner reservations. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. J. Spirit Wear – Jamie Carlson: No report. K. U of I Tailgate – Nancy Reed: No report. L. Balloon Days – Carole Buebe: No report. M. Historian – Deb McKillip: Deb reported that the CD for the band banquet will be a long CD, about 50 minutes long. She will try to have the seniors copy ready for that night. Amy Smith will help her so that she can burn 2 copies at a time. For the rest of us interested in purchasing a copy of the CD, there will be a sign up sheet available at the banquet. A fee of $10 will also be collected at that time for the CD. Deb has not yet completed the video for the banquet, but Cory Silber will help her with the screen. Sherry Bankes has the photos frames for the senior pictures, Deb has the pictures and they will give these to Cindy Barshinger (and Doreen and Janine) to put together for the tables at the banquet. N. Jazz Showcase – Sarah Shelly: John Shelly reported that the jazz showcase went well and was a fantastic night for jazz music performance. The band received $600 in income that night. O. Webmaster – Cory Silber: No report. P. Car Wash – Chuck Bankes – No report. Q. Band Trailer Advertising – Ron Custer – He has received the money from an advertiser and still looking for someone to make the sign. Tracy Hall, who works at Lakis, was recommended to Ron because he does this type of work from his home. R. Fine Arts Calendar – Steph Line, Sherry Totten and Donna Slaton: Mr. Bredemeier said that on May 29th there will be a meeting to set the school calendar for 2008-09. Those events can then be gathered for our fine arts calendar. S. Duck Races - Jamie Carlson/Shaela Duckwiler: No report. T. Seminary Street Days – Ann Shumaker: No report. U. Ways and Means 1. Gift Wrap – Shari Robinson/Carole Buebe: No report. 2. Patron Sales – Dave Pearson: No report. 3. Bottled Water – Cory and Debbie Silber: We have 46 cases, plenty for next year. 4. Cookie Dough – Jo Ellen Eshelman: No report. 5. Restaurant nights/grocery bagging – Linda Mowrer:No report. 6. Fannie May – Cindy Barshinger:No report. 7. Cheesecake – Laurie Pearson: No report. 6. Item/s from Executive Board Election of officers for 2008-2009 President – Rhonda Brady Vice President – vacant Secretary – Doris Kowalski Treasurer – vacant The slate of officers was voted on and approved as presented. We will continue to recruit for the two open slots. B. Julie Chapman will be our new color guard instructor. She is very experienced and has marched with the Phantom Regiment for four years. BrieShadensack will be the Assistant Band Director, replacing Mr. Klaessy, who leaves us to move to Arizona to be near family. Brie is a 2002 GHS graduate. C. Stewart Nyi will continue to send out email announcements to us until Cynthia Kitchen takes over the position and has everything set up and functioning.
