GHS Band Parents Association Minutes July 29, 2008 Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Mr. Bredemeier. Parents and students were welcomed by Mr. Bredemeier. All were encouraged to be seated as information would be shared via a PowerPoint Presentation on the Marching Streaks Band Program. Mr. Bredemeier began the presentation, assuring that all parents/students present had copies of the multiple handouts prepared to assist the Band Directors and Band parents in the organization of the 2008-2009 school year. Handouts included the following: the Handbook, the Consent Form, the Emergency Medical form, and the Band Parent Packet. Specific forms within the Band Parents packet were reviewed. Due dates and amounts due were discussed. The important of the Communication/participation preference form was highlighted. Mr. Bredemeier shared that e-mail announcements would be made each week during the school year. Parents were encouraged to return all completed forms in an envelope marked with the student’s name. Band parents will be available each day of Band Camp to collect forms and fees. Mr. Bredemeier then introduced the Band Directors. Ms. Brie Shadensack was introduced as the new Associate Band Director. A graduate of GHS and the University of Illinois, we welcomed Ms. Shadensack to the Marching Streaks! Also new this year is the Color Guard instructor. Welcome to Ms. Julie Chapman. Returning this year is Mr. Ericson and Mr. Jordan Van Dyke, percussion. Ms. Shadensack then reviewed components of the students’ band grade and attendance policies. She reinforced a new attendance policy which is as follows: If a student is ill, call Ms. Shadensack; the Band Directors will no longer accept notes. The Band Camp schedule- dates, times, activities, was reviewed. The Teacher’s Institute performance was highlighted since this is before school starts and is a graded performance. Other activities of Band Camp were reviewed including Band Olympics, Band Picnic, Band Pictures, and the Band Lock-in. The PowerPoint presentation continued covering the following topics: schedule of rehearsals/sectionals, parking, schedule of performances, football game procedures, competition procedures, band uniforms, charter bus fees, school owned instruments, instrument repairs, rules and regulations, and penalties for violations. Mr. Bredemeier shared traditions of the GHS Marching Streaks. He reinforced the main goal of the Band program – perform our best! He concluded his presentation with a video clip of The Divine Comedy to give all attending a flavor of the 2008 Field Show.
